Welcome back to Ambassador Diaries, our behind-the-scenes series where we catch up with the incredible Racesafe ambassadors. This month, we sit down with event rider Abby Taylor, who shares her biggest lessons from the saddle and her top tips for riders starting out in eventing.

From Pony Club to Producing Prospects
Growing up in a horse-loving family, Abby’s path into eventing felt natural.
“My mum was a grassroots eventer, so I’ve been around horses from the very beginning.”
Early exposure led her through Pony Club teams and grassroots competitions before stepping up to British Eventing levels.
After a memorable 2022 season with Barum Peter Pan, where she achieved multiple top-three placings at BE100 level, Abby decided to put her experience into producing a young horse of her own. Enter Maverick (Topgun Quality), a now 17hh Irish Sport Horse with scope, talent, and a lot of personality.
“He’s been my biggest challenge yet,” Abby admits. “When I first got him, I fell off a lot, but every setback has taught me something about patience and persistence.”

Abby’s Top Tips for Starting Out in Eventing
For Abby, eventing is about more than results, it’s about mindset, support, and steady progress.
“Eventing with someone else makes it twice as fun; sharing the journey with family or friends keeps it special, no matter how the day goes.”
Her mum remains her biggest supporter, and together they’ve navigated everything from rainy one-days to national championships.
Another non-negotiable for Abby is mental preparation.
“Your mindset is as important as your training. Before every phase, I visualise my round, how I’ll ride each fence, each movement. It tricks your brain into believing you’ve already done it, so when it’s time to go, you feel ready for anything.”
Partnership with Racesafe
Abby’s Racesafe gear has been with her since the very beginning of her eventing career, something she credits with giving her confidence in the saddle.
“I’ve ridden in Racesafe from day one and feel like I’ve grown with the brand,” she says. “When I think of Racesafe, three words come to mind: quality, timelessness, and rider-centric design.”
Her go-to piece is the MotionLite:
“I wear it for every lesson, show jumping round, and the first two eventing phases. It’s lightweight, moves with you, and looks almost invisible under a jacket, perfect for both comfort and performance.”
Abby’s also a big fan of the Motion3, her trusted companion at every competition. But what truly stands out to her is the craftsmanship behind each Racesafe product.
“I love that every body protector is handmade in the UK by one of their specialists, and that their name is sewn into the label. It’s such a personal touch, you can feel that care in every piece.”
Looking Ahead
As Abby continues to produce Maverick through the levels and set her sights on new show jumping and eventing goals, her advice to others remains the same:
“Enjoy every step. It’s not just about the results, it’s about the bond you build, the lessons you learn, and the people you share it with.”
